Did I not say this blog was not to be about my own music? To be sure, to be sure.
But it’s not often I write a new song, especially one as heavy as this. Mercifully, I can barely recall the madness that set upon me as I scrawled the words down, nor the howling in my ears when I first struck its chords. When I brought it to practice, my band backed away as if from a thing accursed. When we played it, the footsteps that paced towards us were not our own. When we brought it into Matthew Heine’s hermetic cell he lit candles around us to contain its rough magic and drew pentagrams to channel its rough energy into his mixing desk. Things might have gone badly for him were he not already a seasoned practitioner of just such dark arts.
These were the players on that day
George Henderson - vocal, rhythm guitar, song
Andrew Moore - bass
Jamey Danger - Earth guitar, final Fire solo
Ned Bycroft - drums
Duane Zarakov - Wind and Water synths
Anon we beseeched the Metal Magus, Brother Love, who sent sigils of his own Fire guitars from the deep South and West lands, sigils which were written into the text by Matthew, a text which was then sent to The Master, Angus McNaughton, for mastering.
And who better to make the video evocation of our song, now known as Invocation, than Hayley Theyers, Clarior ex Obscura, supreme mistress of that Power of the Dark Light which mortals know as photography, with her band of enchanted youth.
The circle was complete when the Knight of Fonts, Andrew McLeod, rode in with his black metal brush.
And so it is.
